Any modifications to BaseLinker’s warehouse can be made by exporting an existing warehouse to a CSV file, modifying this file and then re-importing it.
In section BaseLinker warehouse→ Export you can see what does the
Standard export of products to CSV file look like (BL – Products – default CSV).
This file contains all product information (except the list of variants and parameters). You can also create your own export template containing a list of products with any columns – name, images, SKU, manufacturer, price, description, parameters etc.
The export is saved in the UTF-8 format. Therefore, you should also make sure that when opening a CSV file, MS Excel does not overwrite the character encoding system.
The CSV file can be used to quickly edit the inventory. After making local changes in spreadsheet, it is possible to import the file in section BaseLinker Warehouse → Import of products. The file imported in this way will update the warehouse.
The CSV file should include:
- column used to compare products (e.g. ID, SKU, EAN, name) – it should be indicated during import in the field “Main column (link)”
- columns containing modified data (e.g. name, quantity, price, category, EAN, SKU, VAT, weight, manufacturer, description, parameter, main image, etc.)
If the value of the main column is the same in the file and in the warehouse, the product will be updated according to the values given in the other columns.
If a product with the identifier given in the file (this may be indicated in the field “Main column – link” ID number, SKU, EAN or name) is not found in the warehouse, a new product will be created.
If, on the other hand, empty values are left in the file, they can overwrite the current values (delete specific information assigned to the product). To avoid this, select the option “Do not update empty values” when importing.
In the edition mode of the selected product, in the “Parameters” tab you can add a new parameter manually.
In order to add new parameters to many products in the warehouse in bulk, a column with the name of a given parameter (e.g. color) should be added to the CSV file and the values for individual products should be filled in (e.g. blue, red, green).
It is worth removing unnecessary columns and rows from the CSV file. In case of parameter modification, it is worth to leave only the column which system will use to find the right products (e.g. from the product ID), columns with new parameters and records (products) to be modified. This will reduce the risk of errors, and the file will be imported faster.
When importing, indicate which values are contained in the individual columns – “ID” and “Parameter”.
Then select the “Import file” button.
Import modifies products in the warehouse – e.g. new parameters (colour, material) with appropriate values (blue, silk) have been added to the product with a given ID number (34485218).
In the CSV file, in the “main image” column (“additional image 1”, etc.) you should include links to the images.
Each link should be preceded by http:// or https://. In case of import problems, make sure there is no space before the image address. Moreover, BaseLinker warehouse has a capacity limit of 1MB per image. Please compress the images before importing products.
